Natasha shrugged once again. She found herself doing that often and wasn't sure what to make of it. Oh well, whatever.
"I know it's not," she replied, "but my old job was literally what I dreamed of doing since I was a little girl. And besides, I'm not really a born leader."
She decided to let him make what he wanted of that comment. If he asked, she would answer. She enjoyed watching people try to figure it out too much to just come out and say it. Their shock was always a guilty pleasure or something of hers.

"You were a princess before you got assigned here?" Dante joked still in the same position he had been in when the girl had approached his secluded religious hide out. He wasn't quite sure what she meant about the natural born leader comment and was too busy visualizing the girl in a tiara to question it. It was a nice image.
"Nah but really, what could be better than this?" He jumped to his feet in one swift movement and gestured to the environment around him. "Good atmosphere. Good people." His hands motioned toward his chest. "And St. Josephs is technically a school so you might learn something." He smiled down at the pretty girl. "Plus the food isn't as bad as you would think."
The dhampir stretched his lean body. He hadn't been laying down for too long but the hard trainings sessions from the previous week were making impact today. Dante always worked extra hard around the time of the anniversary. Beating the crap out of strigoi dummies kept him busy and stopped him from beating the crap out of other students. Two birds one stone."Have you eaten yet?"

"You were a princess before you got assigned here?"
Natasha snorted lightly and rolled her eyes. She watched as he stood up. She laughed lightly as he tried to convince her that the school was a good place. She didn't doubt it. She briefly wondered how much the students knew about the death of the previous head guardian. Did they know that he was murdered by someone who wasn't a Strigoi? Or did they think that it was a Strigoi? Did they even know that it he was murdered? Natasha had no plans on asking the boy, but she was curious. She would have to ask one of the other guardians later. If any of them would even bother to pay attention to her.
"Have you eaten yet?"
"Nope," she answered as she shook her head, "I'm on patrol."
A thought suddenly popped into her head and she wondered why she hadn't thought of it earlier.
"What's your name, anyway?" she questioned him. Why she had forgotten to ask until now, was beyond her.

"Nope, I'm on patrol." Born to serve, but even guardians had to eat. Dante remembered one of the assignments he had done the previous year. All the novices in his class had to shadow a moroi student minus fake strigoi attacks, for one whole week. The task was to learn how to observe someone and become familiar with their habits. They had to do what their moroi counter part did from when lessons started till when they ended, and on the weekend during the same time. It was weird to Dante at first but he got used to it. It wasn't that bad except for the synchronized bathroom breaks and eating schedule.
Dante is a growing boy and he likes to eat, so being assigned to a kid that was half his weight who ate like a sixteen year old girl on a crazy diet who only ate three meals a day kinda made him sick. He didn't get how Josh kept down the health food he ate and seemed to love either. And only being able to eat when Josh did was ridiculous. That's why he picked up the habit of always carrying some form of deliciousness with him at all times. He refused to make the mistake of not being prepared for hunger attacks. Being deprived of food made him one cranky kid.
"What's your name, anyway?" "Dante." He said as he knelled down grabbed a plastic zip bag half full of tiny multi colored bears and lightly tossed it in the guardians direction. The kid had a thing for sugar and to him candy was good for every occasion. He didn't mind sharing, especially because he knew what it was like to have to switch up your eating habits.

Natasha caught the bag with perfect coordination. She raised an eyebrow.
"I'm Natasha Contrarez" she told him as she inspected the contents of the zip lock bag. It appeared to be jelly beans or something of the sort. Either way, it was loaded with sugar. It was something Rose probably would've been over in a second flat. But Natasha just opened the bag, the total definition of calmness. She grabbed one bean and put it in her mouth. She glanced around slightly, not knowing what any of her colleagues would think if they caught her eating on the job. She enjoyed the sweet taste of the candy and she licked her lips slightly before grabbing a couple more out of the bag.
"Thanks" she said to Dante, smiling. This was much better than the microwave meal she had sitting in her room. The candy reminded her of when she was a little girl and how her mother would give her Jelly Beans every Easter, along with a chocolate rabbit. Those were simpler days, and Natasha missed them dearly.

Natasha Contrarez. Contrarez... as in Guardian Contrarez... as in the new head guardian. Dante was in shock though his face and body remained neutral. There had to some kind of mistake. No way could this very hot.. very young.. very sassy dhampir be the new head guardian. But there hadn't been any other new additions to the academy. He wondered how he hadn't realized earlier or even bothered to ask. It had to be true. She had to be the replacement. But why? What was her previous job? Was she an elite guardian at another school? Why hadn't one of the guardians under the head guardian been given the position. Dante needed answers.
Dante had been keeping a low profile all week, but he had heard people whispering things about Guardian Contrarez, the new head guardian, who was an annoying pain in this ass. In fact earlier today he had heard some of the younger moroi girls bitching when he was passing by. They were calling the new head guardian a joke. He now understood why. They were probably jealous, that or she had got on their bad side for busting them doing something. Holding a grudge around here, for something that was definitely not worth it, was second nature to most of the academies inhabitants. Kids could be cruel, especially the girls. Dante hoped the guardian knew what she was in for.
"No problem." He smiled a tiny smile and kept his poker face on. "Gummy bears are always at the top of my list." They were one of his favorite foods ever. Yes he actually considered sugary sweets to be in their own food group. And often substituted candy for breakfast, lunch and dinner meals, though he did eat the veggies and other nutritious foods he was supposed to. He nodded toward the bag in Natasha's hand. "If you ever need anything let me know," Dante smiled, "I know a guy." He said in a joke mafia voice. Dante wanted answers but he knew now wasn't the time to look for them.

Natasha smiled at him.
"Yeah, gummy bears are awesome. Call me weird or whatever you want though, but my favorite snack has always been apples" she said in amusement. Rose had always found her crazy for that fact, but they would all just laugh it off.
She laughed as Dante said something in a fake mafia voice.
"Will do" she said humorously. She resisted the urge to jokingly wink at him. He was a student, and no matter how innocent it was, she had to be careful.

Dante couldn't help but smile at Natasha, she was too cute. "You can also let me know if you need help with anything else." Dante said with the smile still on his lips. "I mean with like navigating the formally acceptable. Certain people can be brutal." He continued hoping that what he was saying wasn't going to offend her, he was kind of trying to warn her without warning her. "But I'm sure you can handle it... you did survive highschool once already" He joked.
It was starting to get colder out and Dante wasn't even aware of the time. He was still hoping that it would rain so he could lay back down and watch the water fall from the dark grey clouds above him. That was one of his favorite things to do as a child. He really did love colder weather. To him rain and lightning and thunder storms were one of the most beautiful things you could watch, they were way more entertaining than the silly comic cartoons his cousins obsessed over. He remembered how when he was little his sisters always used to hide in their parents bed whenever a storm hit, and how he would run outside as fast as he could to feel the rain on his skin. His mom always used to freak out when he did things like that. She would send his dad outside to bring him back, but his dad usually just stood out there with him and watched the elements play tag with each other. Sometimes they would dance. Dante missed those days more than anything.

Natasha grinned. Yeah, she had survived high school once and she could probably do it again. Although, her high school experience wasn't exactly normal. She had missed out on two years and when she came back after that, let's just say high school is a lot more dramatic than it is on television. At least vampire high school.
"Compared to my high school experience, this should be a breeze" she said. She winced slightly when she realized that she probably just jinxed herself. Why did she always do that? Well, she actually didn't do that too often, but still.
"I wonder if it'll rain" she muttered to herself as she looked up at the sky. She wasn't sure whether she wanted it to rain or not, however.

Dante mimicked Natasha as she looked up at the sky. "I wonder if it'll rain" She said under her breath while examining the beautiful sky. "I hope it does. I've been waiting for it." Dante wasn't sure if Natasha would think that he was weird for wanting to be out in a rain storm, but he really didn't care. He loved them and they brought back good memories, simple as that.
Dante raised his left arm and his long fingers tugged at one of the white rope cords that hung from his black hoodie. With his right hand he gestured for Natasha to throw the gummy bears back to him. He was hungry. Dante ate a lot. He was a growing boy after all.

Natasha looked at Dante and smiled at him.
"You like the rain, huh?" she questioned, though it was obvious from his statement. She grabbed one last gummy bear from the bag before tossing it back to him. She plopped the gummy into her mouth, chewed it, and then swallowed it. The sweet taste lasted on her tongue for a moment before it eventually faded. She glanced around slightly, knowing that she should' ve finished her patrol by now.
"The rain's pretty cool," she continued nonchalantly, "I mean, I would kind of prefer not to be in it, especially if it's really cold, y'know? I guess my opinion on the rain depends on the mood I'm in."
She was babbling slightly and she knew it. It wasn't often that she babbled, and she blushed ever-so-slightly.

"Like it?" Dante caught the bag just as easily as Natasha had thrown it. "I love it." He smiled to himself as the memories still, slightly faded, played out within his mind."The rain is amazing." He said in a softer tone than his usual voice naturally inhibited. "The rain's pretty cool." Natasha said making him smile a little bit more. "I mean, I would kind of prefer not to be in it, especially if it's really cold, y'know?" He nodded in response. Girls could be girlie no matter what their profession. "I guess my opinion on the rain depends on the mood I'm in." "Mmmmm" Dante nodded in agreement again.
Dante opened the bag and pulled out a small hand full of the tiny gummy bears that were filled with sugary sweet goodness, then slid his fingers over the seal closing the it again in one swift movement. His grey eyes returned to the sky yet again. "Watching rain fall is one of the most beautiful things you can see.." He looked at Natasha again "Kinda like you when you blush." Yes he had seen her blush again. And yes he thought it was just as cute as the first time. It didn't phase him that she was a guardian. She was cute and he felt like complimenting her, so that's just what he did. He popped two gummy bears into his mouth and smiled shamelessly at the new head guardian as he swallowed them.

"Watching rain fall is one of the most beautiful things you can see.. Kinda like you when you blush."
As if on cue, Natasha's blush increased. She also coughed slightly, not sure why. This was the first time she had been caught off guard in a while and she wasn't quite used to it. But leave it to a teenage boy to be the first one.
"Well, uh, thanks" she said, regaining control over herself. Her guard was up now and she gave the boy a glance. He was probably feeling a bit hormonal and didn't know what he was talking about. It seemed like rain could do that to some people.
"I need to finish my patrol" she said, looking around and taking a step to continue her patrol. She wondered how she would recap her day to Jonathan during their nightly phone call tonight. She might leave out the fact that a student hit on her.

Dante nodded. The smile was still on his face, the way it had been through the majority of the time he had met and spoke to the academies new guardian. This time though, he wasn't smiling because she was leaving, he had done that before with certain people... said ridiculous things to them in order to make them retreat, but what he said he didn't find ridiculous at all. This time he was smiling because and even though it may sound a tad messed up, Dante was glad he had embarrassed the pretty Dhampir that he had shared his gummy bears with. To him it kinda made him feel like she liked him, or at least thought he was cute. Yep it was idiotic, but he didn't care, he just liked seeing her blush.
The seventeen year old novice walked back over to where he had been laying and praying for rain. Maybe she did actually need to get back to patrolling, Dante wasn't sure how much time had even passed since she approached him earlier. That's what happens when you're doing something you like, or talking to someone you like... you loose track of the time. "See you around." Dante said from the ground where he now laid again waiting for the rain to fall. He wanted to know what happened to the last head guadian... and he was going to find out.
