Dante shifted his weight from one side of his body to the other, then back again. He was nervous. He hadn't felt this way in such a long time. His anxiety swelled within him as stood silently on the border of the church doors staring up at them as if they were a gateway to a foreign planet. Inwardly he was still debating whether he should enter through the large doorway or just turn around and wander back the way he had come to get here. He knew it was silly to come to the church. After all what good would it do really? But he couldn't think of any where else to go. He thought back to a few hours ago and re-winded the sickening thoughts that had led him to this place. The dreams nightmares were unbearable. And they were becoming worse with each evening that passed.
For once in his life Dante really just had no clue what to do. He couldn't talk about it, because he knew that if he did it would make it real. So he held it all inside. Wrapped a chain around it. Then throw it inside the endless ocean inside his mind to sink and never be seen again. Only it kept floating to the surface. No matter how hard he tried to drown it, it kept breaking free and coming after him. His fears haunted him like an angry ghost out for revenge. And he knew that no matter how much he tried to vanquish the horrifying dream sequence, it would not leave him alone. Because it was not just a dream. And it was not just a nightmare. It was a possibility that could soon become a reality if he did not do something about it. But, he, just did not know what to do.
So here he stood. In this place he knew well, but had never actually entered into unless he had to. Usually the Dhampir preferred to lay hidden among the trees that surrounded and shielded the back part of this holy building. He wasn't religious at all and had no need to bear his soul to the divine creator or any of the priests who acted as his instruments. But today, today he needed someone... needed something, he needed a sign, he needed to know that everything was going to be ok.
It's not everyday you witness the person you love most in the world being slaughtered.
It's not everyday you witness that same person being tortured right in front of your eyes for what seems to be endless amounts of time, while you stand back paralyzed in such utter shock that you are unable to do a damn thing while they fight with every ounce of their being for survival. But it is everyday that this happens if it happens in a dream that reoccurs every time you fall asleep.
