TREASURE 'cause what you want's not what you're getting. it's just a matter of time. Shea's Note; This was going to be part of my application, but then my application was super long with it, so I took it out. However I wrote it so I still want to post it somewhere.
The day was overcast and a bit chilly. Silas was outside despite the foreboding sky, practicing like dad had been earlier. Nearby his father sat with his head in his hands claiming he was just very tired now. The little boy believed him and went on with his practice. Soon the sound of heavy footfall startled the six year old, breaking the silence. Ever the curious one, the young boy dashed to the edge of their yard to peer from the safety of a tree. Several yards away two people were marching. Both had a cartoon-like complexion- so very white!
While one was attentive, the other had her eyes cast down. She was following, but it seemed to be on automatic, like she didn't want to. Her feet seemed to drag with each step, threatening to trip her. To his right was the source of the footfall. Two men, his father's friends, were standing at the edge of their yard now watching the two strangers. The precession was slow, the expressions of the strangers impossible to see. But they were looking for something. What? Where? And, most importantly, why?
"Silas, come away from there." His father's voice was stern and near. Silas turned slowly, looking up at his father as he towered behind him.
"Yes, father." Silas agreed obediently, slipping past his father. He anticipated being told to go back to his practice. Instead, his father surprised him by catching him by the shoulder and crouching down to his level.
"Listen up, okay?"His father prompted. He nodded his understanding, his breath caught in his chest at the seriousness of his father's tone. Daddy wasn't normally serious like this. He was always so gentle because Silas was so young. He always said kids shouldn't worry about the tough stuff, especially not at six, to which Silas had giggled at the time. Now he remembered the conversation with a sense of worry.
"I want you to go inside with your mother. Find her, and stay silent. Do not move. If anyone finds you, anyone at all, be a good boy, alright? Listen closely to them, and do not try to hurt them." His father's friends moved swiftly to stand behind him.
"Shawn..."The dark haired one murmured. Silas looked up in time to see him staring hard at his father. The other man was keeping an eye out for the two approaching figures. Silas' father got to his feet, gesturing to the house as his eyes glossed over with tears yet to fall. Silas didn't want to see him cry, so he turned and ran as fast as he could into the house.
