Natasha smiled as she chuckled.
"Tell me about it. Thank God that's over for me" she said in amusement. Although, she really had hated homework. It had been one of the banes of her existence. Along with a few other things, but yeah.
"So," she questioned, "you're a Senior?"
She had recognized that textbook. She thought they would've possibly made a new one by now. She shrugged slightly to herself. Oh well, what did it matter?

The guardian laughed about Amelia's dislike of homework. "Tell me about it. Thank God that's over for me." She said making Amelia laugh also. Amelia realized that she had nothing to worry about. This was just a friendly conversation between two people. Guardian Contrarez didn't seem like the type of tyrant who would turn her in for skipping a class.
"So, you're a Senior?" Amelia replied by nodding her head. "It's funny to think that this will soon be over. I mean as much as the work sometimes annoys me, I know I'll still miss this." By this, she didn't really mean the school, but more the freedom that she had and the comfort of knowing what would happen next. After graduation she had no idea what her father had in store for her. She didn't really want to think about it either. It upset her to think that everything she had could disappear just as quickly as she got it. "Do you miss it?" She asked the guardian. She was very young. It wouldn't be surprising if she graduated a year or two ago.

Natasha bit her lip slightly as she thought about the question. Did she miss it? She sure as hell didn't miss the drama and immaturity. The drama, though, seemed to follow her, so she didn't count it too much. She remembered back to the first few years, the years before she had ran away with Rose and Lissa. She smiled slightly.
"Yes," she asnwered, "I do miss it sometimes. I miss the innocence, if you will. It was reassuring then, to know that someone was there to fix your mistakes. In the real world, no one can fix your mistakes but you. But the freedom is wonderful. I also feel more accomplished, like I can actually do something with my life now."
She hadn't met to say that much, but it had kind of poured out. She smiled at Amelia, wondering how she would take that information.

Guardian Contrarez sounded so wise as she spoke. Amelia returned her smile with a smile of her own. She had that mature, all knowing, guardian vibe about her that most of the best guardians had. Amelia could see now the girl before her a new light. She respected her even more than she had when she figured out she was a guardian. She liked that she understood the words Guardian Contrarez had said. Amelia constantly thought about what would happen after she left the academy. She was pretty sure her father would make her go to some sort of elite college. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Maybe she'd like it. Maybe things would work out for her after all. Wishful thinking. She pushed thoughts of the future out of her mind. She didn't need to think about any of it.
"Sometimes I wonder what things will be like after I graduate." Amelia was glad that the guardian had shared with her. She didn't know why but she felt an odd comfortability being around this girl. She had this strange presence around her. That's probably why Amelia felt ok talking to her about what she was about to say. "But most of the time I'm just happy to be here." Amelia smiled again. "I was home-schooled when I was younger. I kind of don't want this to end."

"Yeah," Natasha said, nodding, "in a way, everything is just like you expected after you graduate, but at the same time, it's different. Trust me, I never expected some of the things that happened after I graduated."
Feeling as if there was no immediate danger in the library, Natasha went and sat down next to Amelia. It helped to resolve some of the last awkwardness she had been feeling.
"I know what you mean," she continued, "I was slightly conflicted about whether or not I wanted high school to end. High school was a bit more dramatic for me than it was for others, but that's a story for another time." She chuckled slightly before continuing. "But either way it had to end eventually. That chapter of my life is now over, and it's time for the next. Trust me, sooner or later, you'll want to move on to the next chapter of your life. You can't be stuck in the same place, never moving forward."
Once again, the words had poured out. She briefly wondered if Alberta had ever had to give life lessons like these. She made a brief mental note to call Alberta sometime. It would be nice to get some advice from a professional.

Amelia didn't invite the guardian to sit with her, but she did. It wasn't awkward or weird that a school guardian was sitting and talking to her about one of the worries that frequently invaded her mind. It felt natural, normal and even a little nice. Amelia decided that she liked the dark haired girl who sat talking to her as if they were old friends catching up after one of them were away for a while, not strangers who had just met for the fist time five minutes ago and who were now discussing things of a sensitive nature like her future, or the fact that she was actually concerned about it.
Guardian Contrarez had Amelia's full attention as she spoke. Even though Amelia wasn't looking at her, she was actually listening rather than just pretending to listen, as she did so often these days. "But either way it had to end eventually. That chapter of my life is now over, and it's time for the next. Trust me, sooner or later, you'll want to move on to the next chapter of your life." Amelia nodded. "You can't be stuck in the same place, never moving forward." Wise and deep. Briefly Amelia wondered if the young guardian was also some kind of Novice peer support group leader or something like that.
It's just that sometimes I wish things didn't have to change. Everything feels like it's moving so quickly all the time. Sometimes I just want it all to slow down." Amelia was a little surprised at the words as the came from her lips. She didn't mean to say them, but they were true, that was how she felt, and she was sharing this with a girl she for some reason had a feeling she could trust. "But at the same time I don't. I don't want other things to stay like this at all." Amelia grined and looked at the guardian. "Think I just might be ready for the next chapter." She joked.

Natasha nodded as she listened to Amelia. She grinned at the girl and laughed slightly at her joke.
"Good" she commented, still grinning, "because this is your last year here, so you kind of have to be ready. Unless you plan on working at the Academy for the rest of your life."
Natasha grimaced ever-so-slightly at the thought. It wasn't that there was anything wrong with working at the academy, she just didn't want to do it for the rest of her career. She wanted to go back to court and guard Lissa, while being surrounded by all of her friends. She wanted to marry Jonathan with all of them present. She didn't want to have to plan vacations just to see them.
Natasha forcefully brought herself out of her thoughts and turned her attention back to Amelia. She put the smile back on her face.
"By the way, do you know what you want to do once you graduate?" she questioned curiously.

Guardian Contrarez was again right. This was Amelia's last year here. Unless she did actually plan on failing.. which really wasn't an option, just like working at the academy wasn't an option either. "By the way, do you know what you want to do once you graduate?" The guardian asked with a smile on her face. Amelia smiled. She knew exactly what she wanted to do. It would never happen, but she did know. She dreamed about it daily.
"I want to be a designer." What harm could sharing her silly dream be? It's not like Guardian Contrarez was a spy sent by her father. Plus Amelia kinda liked that the other girl cared to ask. It was good to have a normal conversation with some one who was detached from your life and didn't know every single secret you tried to keep. "I want to go to FIDM after graduation." Amelia smiled even though she knew her dream of going to that particular college was an empty one. It'll never happen though. She knew they did night classes, and she had the money to go, and would easily get in if she applied. And she also knew that her father would never let her go there. Amelia opened her mouth and was going to say something about how unfair it was to have other people choose your life for you, but she didn't say the words she wanted to because she realized that she wasn't the only one with an unfair mapped out life. The girl sitting next to her had it hard too. She was a Dhampir. She didn't really have much choice when it came to her future. Either be a Guardian, blood whore.. or a complete out cast.
Amelia felt completely selfish. You have a good life don't complain be thankful. She looked out at the row of books infont of her. "Did you ever just" She felt silly asking, but she still wanted to know, "like want to go to college?" Amelia wasn't sure of the other girls situation. She didn't know if she had choosen to be here or had been sent here, and she was curious. "I mean I know that you guys don't get to go unless you're assigned to someone who is, but like, if you could would you?"

Natasha's smile increased slightly when Amelia said she wanted to be a designer. She glanced over the girl's clothing and could tell that she had a great since of style.
Natasha thought about Amelia's question. Did she ever want to go to college? There were those days when Lissa was planning on going to college, back before she became Queen. God, those days seemed so long ago. They actually kind of were.
"Yes," she said as she nodded slightly to herself, "I would if I could. But the thing is, I wouldn't know what I would do with myself. I guess I would find something, but I've spent my whole life knowing what I would do when I grew up. I actually rather enjoy my job, despite how unpredictable it can be at times."
Unpredictable was right. Never in a million years had Natasha seen herself being the head guardian of a school, and at such a young age.

"Yes. I would if I could. But the thing is, I wouldn't know what I would do with myself. I guess I would find something, but I've spent my whole life knowing what I would do when I grew up. I actually rather enjoy my job, despite how unpredictable it can be at times." Wow. Amelia couldn't even imagine what that was like. It was both similar to her life of being told what to do, and at the same time it was so different. Amelia had decisions made for her the she could refuse to go along with. She was a Moroi royal, who was almost eighteen, and had family who would happily take her in even though they barely new her. But if she was a Dhampir she would of been forced into the life of a guardian. She didn't even consider being a blood whore to be an option, she was kinda against them. She didn't like the idea of what they did at all.
Amelia peered at the other girl out of the corner of her eye. "It must be hard." She said unsure if the guardian would become offended about the opinions she was bout to voice. "I don't think I could ever do it. I mean I have great respect for what you do Guardian Contrarez." Amelia turned to look at the other girl directly. "But I don't think being foreced into it right." She paused briefly trying to think of a way to make her words sound casual. "You're so young you should be able to have a choice. I mean you might be happy to be a guardian and that's cool, but a lot of Dhampirs aren't, and I.. I think they should be given the option not to be novices if they don't want to. Nobody should be forced into something they don't want to do." Amelia knew that better than anyone. "We should be able to fight right alongside you guys if we want." She wasn't sure why she added the last part. It was her opinion, yes, but she didn't really go around telling everyone about how she felt. A lot of people looked down on things like that.

Natasha's lip twitched as she tried to keep her smile from growing bigger. Amelia was a very smart girl, with wonderful opinions.
"I completely agree" she said, nodding. She allowed her smile to grow more. As soon as Amelia mentioned that Moroi should fight alongside their guardians, Jonathan's image had popped into Natasha's mind. Jonathan would like this girl, that much Natasha knew for sure.
Natasha dropped her voice down lower as she spoke, just in case anybody was eavesdropping. Despite the fact that Lissa was now Queen, the issue of Moroi fighting was still not resolved.
"I know someone who could help you learn offensive magic skills, if you'd like" she whispered. She smiled at Amelia encouragingly, but she wasn't going to force her to do anything she didn't want to. She was just offering it.

"I completely agree" That was a tiny bit of a surprise to Amelia. But it also made a fair bit of sense. Guardian Contrarez was young, she probably could relate because she was a Dhampir, and she wokred for the academy, so she had to be one of the best guardians her age. Which also meant that she was up to date with recent royal revelations, there wasn't a soul in their world who didn't know about what happened to the old queen. Or the face that the new one was an amazing spirit user with modern views on things. "I know someone who could help you learn offensive magic skills, if you'd like" Amelia smiled. It would be amazing to have someone teach her things she wasn't able to learn on her own. "That would be.. She spoke the words too quickly. The excitement she felt at the idea of learning new offensive magic made her momentarily the fact that she had told the guardian that she was an air user. "That would be great.. but."She wasn't sure if she should tell her she lied or not. She had this strange sense telling her she sould trust Guardian Contrarez but she still wasn't sure if it was a good idea. What if it turend out to be a set up? Amelia looked into the icey blue eyes of the beautiful girl who sat nest to her on the floor of the library. No. She's not like that.
Amelia decided that she could trust Guardian Contrarez. She had this presence about her that Amelia had faith in. And besides she always had the option of compelling her if things went badly. "I lied." She said about attempting to admit the the truth. "When I said air was my element." Amelia looked at the row of books in front of her again. "I'm a spirit user. Air is my cover. I don't like lying but it's necessary a lot of the time." Amelia wasn't at all ashamed of her abilities but a lot of people were disapproving when it came to the use of spirit. "I hope you understand, and that you'll keep my secret." She again looked into the girls blue eyes mentally pleding with her. The last thing Amelia wanted to do was have to compel her now. "I would definitely like to meet your um friend if that's possible?"

To say that Natasha was surprised would be an incredible understatement. She had to hand it to herself, though. She didn't let nearly as much of her surprise show. So that was what it was about Amelia that had grabbed Natasha's attention. That was what was so familiar about her. She was a spirit user, just like Lissa.
After a moment or two of just sharing at Amelia in shock, a huge grin spread across Natasha's face. She wasn't upset that the girl had lied to her. Natasha completely understood.
"Well, what do you know," she said cheerfully, "one of my best friends just so happens to be a spirit user."
She made sure to still keep her voice low, however. The subject of spirit was another sensitive one.
"And sure," she continued, "I can call him right now if you want. I have no idea where he is at this moment."
She thought about Jonathan. He was either exploring the academy, or lying in their room watching television. Most likely a Spanish soap opera. They were one of his guilty pleasures, despite the fact that he didn't understand a word of Spanish besides the basics that basically everyone knows. They fascinated him and he had once told her that he liked them because he could make up his own plots for it. Natasha had just laughed and rolled her eyes. That was one of the things Natasha loved about Jonathan, he could always make her laugh.

One of her best friends is a spirit user. A spirit user who taught offensive magic? No way. "Seriously?" Amelia was a little stunned by Guardian Contrarez's response. She didn't seem freaked out at all. She seemed kinda amused actually. Amazing. Complete stranger walks into you life or um library, you spill your biggest secret and she's completely cool about it. Amelia literally had to stop herself from pinching her own arm. How strange that this girl who she had known all of ten minutes, was almost instantly more accepting of her than she expected most of the people in her life to ever be. Life is weird.
"This is a little crazy." She leaned forward, titled her head and perfect fire colored waves fell back over her shoulder. "I mean I just wasn't expecting such a calm reaction from you. I thought I would have to.. but at the same time you have this presence about you.. and you know another spirit user who can teach offensive magic.." Amelia was talking to herself while talking to the other girl at the same time. This wasn't an effect of spirit, just a habit she had.
She snapped back to where she was. "I've been learning little things on my own." And not so little things too. She turned to look at the guardian. "But if your friend could help, if he knows.. you know then yeah you should so call him." Amelia's excited tone died down when reality threw dream shattering stones at her glass house. "But even if your friend could teach me, I don't get off campus privileges, not even for school trips, so there's no point really." It was one of the conditions her father had made law.

Natasha chuckled.
"I'm sorry, my friend who can teach you how to use defensive magic isn't a spirit user. My friend who is a spirit user is a little too busy doing her job at court at this moment" she corrected the misunderstanding. She smiled. She felt that it was currently unnecessary to mention the fact that her friend with spirit was currently the Queen. But if Amelia asked, she would answer her honestly.
"I'll be honest with you, though," she said, growing more serious, "I'm not sure how offensive you can get with spirit."
There were only two things Natasha could think of that spirit users could do against Strigoi. First, they could possibly use their super compulsion on them. Natasha shivered slightly as she remembered when Lissa had done that. She wasn't sure whether it was lucky or not that Rose was able to take the darkness from her. Anyways, Natasha had never seen it be used against a Strigoi, so she wasn't even sure if it would work. The second option was to heal them, like what Lissa did for Dimitri. But that was slightly over the top and extremely difficult.
